(NSU NEWSROOM—April 8, 2016)---A Norfolk State University sophomore political science major from Virginia Beach has been named as the April 2016 Ideal Spartan.
Jasmine Dunbar, 19, who serves as the NSU SGA Chief Justice and as a White House HBCU All-Star, received the honor for her “poise, maturity, compassion and willingness to serve others,” said NSU Dean of Students Tracci Johnson.
As the SGA Chief Justice, Dunbar has planned and facilitated programs to promote the Norfolk State University Student Code of Conduct. She has also coordinated efforts and assisted with initiatives to deter high risk behaviors among her peers and to raise awareness about the harmful effects of drug and alcohol abuse, Johnson said.
As an HBCU All-Star, Dunbar worked with other students from Historically Black Colleges and Universities to help provide outreach opportunities and establish communication to their peers about the value of education.
Dunbar, who also maintains a 4.9 GPA, hopes to pursue a terminal degree in archaeology and wants to eventually become a museum curator after she graduates from Norfolk State.
